Very Merry Teacher's Gifts

Hi everyone!

 

As promised, I am sharing some more teacher's gifts. What I'm showing today is VERY simple, and it also involves the right to eat potato chips guilt free!!

 

Adrienne sent me the lovely Very Merry collection from Echo Park, and I got to work... Let me show you the end result first (I think I am finished anyway. There's a few weeks 'til Christmas so I might add some more decorations!)

 

 

 

So - here's where the potato chip bit comes in; the base for my gift is an empty Pringles container. And for it to be empty we have to eat what's in it, right? Luckily I got some help from the other family members. I really don't need any extra stuffing before Christmas, and I have a few of these to make! :)

 

 

So, we start with an empty container, and a paper cut to size (9x10 inches). Use strong glue to glue the paper to the container.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Honestly, from here you can do whatever you fancy, but I decided to cut two different strips of paper (3x10 inches & 1,5x10 inches) and glue them on. Make sure the papers lines up nice and tidy at the back.

 

 

 

Then decorate away! I've added a doily, some yarn, cranberries from Spotlight & leaves cut out with my cuttlebug for this one. Will possibly add some more decorations & a tag with the teacher's name closer to Christmas.

 

 

On the other two I also used yarn, and some bells from Spotlight. Also had some nice burlap that I thought would work well here. The possibilities are endless!

It's only 50 days 'til...

...you know what. Yes. Christmas.

I will admit I am not the biggest fan of Christmas, but since having kids you just have to do it. :)

So with only 50 days 'til the big day, it means we have even LESS time to get those teacher's gifts together.

I always go overboard with this. When my oldest was in her first pre-school, I wasn't working full time and had only one child. So it wasn't a biggie doing 14 teacher's gifts. Then it seemed like a breeze when we moved and changed pre-schools, they had only 7 teachers! Sweet - so I started doing gifts for both Easter and Christmas. And now - they are expecting it. Yes. I dug a whole for myself that I can't get out of!

So - this year I have one girl in school - 1 teacher's gift to sort, plus those 7 teachers in pre-school.

Just painting a picture, sorry for the ramble. Just letting you know that my posts for November will be ALL ABOUT THE TEACHER'S GIFTS!!

I have started, with some lovely Echo Park papers that Adrienne sent me, but I will be honest and tell you I haven't finished. So instead, for today, I will share what I did for Tova's teacher last year. She was in a reception class, and had a fabulous teacher.

I found the idea online, and it's such an EASY gift to make, and the kids can help too!

You need a polystyrene wreath, I got mine from Spotlight. I covered it with ribbon, and then the gluing of crayons can begin...

 

 

 

After all those crayons are glued on, I added some handmade fabric flowers and Prima leaves.

 

 

 

Finshing off with a little twine as the "hanging device".

 



 

 

 

We gave this to my daughter's teacher on December 1st, so that it could hang on her door ALL of December. She was SO happy to receive something like this. 10 times better than chocolate!!!

 

 

She has a new teacher this year - and guess what she's gonna get?!?!?

Echo Park mini collections with Annelie

You all know that I am Echo Park's number one fan, right? I just LOVE LOVE LOVE all their collections, and there are not many that I don't have.

Last month I purchased two of their mini collections; Homemade, and School days.

In the kits you get 3 double sided papers and one sticker sheet. As always Echo Park deliver on colour and design and it's just perfect for my taste.

Here is the LO I made with the School days mini collection. Finally got that precious photo of miss almost 6 scrapped!!

With the Homemade mini collection, I scrapped about our Christmas baking. I love using non-Christmas themed papers for Christmas pages, and I'm really happy how this one came out:

Simply Scrap your Stories - part 2

Welcome to the second installment of my Simple Stories album.

This time I have done my girls' first birthdays. Again, I have made it simple, just adding stickers on my left page, and some mist splatter of course. And again, my typewriter did the journaling.

On my right page, I went for one of the papers that are cut to size, with binder holes. That means no plastic covering the photo. I've never done this before, so not sure how it will keep. But when the album is closed it will have plastic next to it anyway, so I think I'll be OK. I also don't have any big, bulky embellishments that will fall off, so I am not worried.

I used one of the fun pockets to put the photo in. Love that effect!

Simply scrap your stories - part 1

Welcome to the first installment of many in my new series about how to scrap your stories in a simple way.

I will be using the very clever "Mix & Match album" from Simple Stories, and the paper series "Summer Fresh" from Simple Stories as well. I will also add bits and bobs from my stash, to match my stories and the colours in the album.

The album pages are approx 6.5 by 8 inches, but the best thing with this idea is that it all comes with the pack. Sure you can add WHATEVER YOU WANT to your album, but if you don't have an evergrowing stash, there'll be lots to choose from in the pack.

This is what the album looks like:

Now, because I scrap quite frequently, and I also do Project Life, I had to have a think about what my theme for this book was gonna be. I dindn't really want to "double up", if that makes sense. I decided on something that I know my family is gonna LOVE - photos and stories about my kids around their birthdays! So my first installment shows my beautiful girls at birth.

Now, I haven't decided on what my front page is going to look like, or even the tab dividers inside the album, but here is what I have done so far:

It's a little hard getting good photos of plastic sleeves, but you get the picture.

What I love about Simple Stories paper is that they do just that - make it SIMPLE. You don't have to add a lot of extra decorations if you don't want to. So much freedom!

As you can see, I've decided to use my old typewriter in this album. I might also get my alpha stamps out, I like the "home made" feel that gives.

I've only just started this project, but I'm in love with it already. I'll be back in a couple of weeks to show you my next pages!

Product Focus - Chat Clouds

Hi everyone, Annelie here!

If you've seen my posts with Pink Paislee Indigo Blue, you might remember the little journal spots, or CHAT CLOUDS from my two previous LO's. Today I am sharing a different way to use them!

I decided to jump on the "Project Life" wagon this year, and I am loving it so far. Yes, I am behind, but with a full time job and two little girls - that's what I expected.

When I initially saw the chat clouds, I had a LO in mind, using the little speech bubbles as just that - speech bubbles. But I didn't really get the LO to work, so I gave up on it. Then - I had a genious idea - to use it in my Project Life album!

I found them perfect to journal on, and it gives a lovely fresh look in my album. I love how they tell the different little stories about our Elsa.

The little stars & flowers that I had left after using quite a few of them on my previous LO's came in handy as decorations on my next page that holds a lot of photos.

More Prairie Hill inspiration

Hi ladies - welcome back to the blog this Monday!

Today I'm sharing another LO using Pink Paislee's "Prairie Hill" collection. I wanted to have a bit more colour on this LO, compared to my previous one. So I picked up the blue in the collection by using a blue cardstock as my base. The mist splatter is a dark bule/grey Studio Calico mist.

I have layered patterened paper & vellum a little un-even to get movement in my LO, also adding my favourite; big banners of course!

The circels are chipboard decorations from the collection, I LOOOOOVE them! They add such interest to the page!

Step By Step - Birthday Card

Hi everyone :)

Today I'll be showing you how to make a bright and fun birthday card using the Let's Party range from Best Creation Inc. This range truly is colourful in every way and really screams celebration so it's a lot of fun to work with.

Step 1.

I used a striped pattern as my background and to give it a bit of interest I cut it into 4 equal strips. I love using multi-coloured backgrounds as it gives you a lot of colour options later on in your project - basically any colour combination you choose from the background will work - perfect!

Step 2.

I love making cute little candles out of paper and a bit of cotton or bakers twine. They're so easy! All you have to do is cut a square or rectangle and fix a piece of cotton so it sits at the top left or right corner, then start rolling them up with the cotton on the inside. A handy little tip is roll them around a thin paint brush or pencil to get them started as the first roll can be the tricky bit.

Step 3.

As this card is all about celebration I wanted to include a couple of little streamers. So I cut a few thin strips of paper in a few different colours then gave them a slight curl with some scissors (as you would with ribbon). When it comes to sticking these down and creating a streamer effect I fix the top of the streamer to some card then twist it around a few times and then fix the bottom. Easy as that! The Let's Party range also includes a pattern that features streamers, as shown on my previous post, so it's a nice little tie in :)

Step 4.

At the beginning of any card I only stick my background paper down and leave everything else loose so I can move things around and change colours etc. Here you will see I have all of my main components that I want to use.

Final product!

Everything is now fixed in place and the card is finished off with a sparkly sentiment from the Let's Party range. I also added tiny bit of glitter to the streamers for some extra sparkle. Another tip, because of the shape, when sticking the candles down I like to use a really strong adhesive like a hot glue gun so I know that they'll never fall off.

Prairie Hill with Annelie

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I am sure you are all excited about what's starting tomorrow - the STARS IN THEIR EYES competition! I can't wait for you to see what we have in store for you!

Before then, I'd like to share a LO that I did with the gorgeous Prairie Hill collection from Pink Paislee. I love the subdued colour scheme in this range.

My first share is a LO with my DH.

By now you know I loooove to use white cardstock with a bit of paint splatter on it. :) No difference this time. Lately I have also fallen in love with acetate. Layering it together with patterened paper, and some messy sewing. I really like how it came out here.

Chevron is one of the "in" shapes at the moment, and I cut some out to point to the photo of my lovely DH.

And yes. I got permission from DH to use these amazing resin butterflies by Melissa Frances! :)

Indigo Bleu with Annelie

Hi everyone!

I hope May has been crafty for you so far!

Today I am sharing a page with the gorgeous Indigo Bleu range from Pink Paislee. I'd like to show that you can use blue colours on a girl page, and make it work!

I wanted to show off the gorgeous shipping tags, so I placed them on top of the papers. I love how they stand out next to the photo. They are sold out at the moment, but with some nice stamps & matching colours you could easily make your own, with a basic tag as a base.

Adding some gorgeous sparkly flowers from the Chat cloud pack, making it soft and girly, on the straight layered papers. I also love those wooden buttons from the trinkets pack!!

For the finishing touch, I tucked a couple of Chat clouds under the paper, and added a lovely Prima trim.

I adore this colour combination, and can't wait to share what else I have made with this collection!

Final Inspiration - October Afternoon

Today is my last to show you the gorgeous Farmhouse Range from October Afternoon.  I started this layout wanting to use as many of the stickers and tin pins as I could,  but also wanted to incorporate the lovely Spellbinders circles which I got from Megan at the retreat.  

I used the Farmhouse Paper - Phonograph as my base and then went over it very lightly with some Old Victoria Rose Distress Rose.

So I used the circles as my base for the layout combining it with layering some of the stickers onto chipboard and foam tape to give it dimension.

I also made my own circle flowers, and finishing them off with some lovely pearls and some strips of journalling stickers.

I also added some dimensional magic on some of the stickers to give them an epoxy look.

 

 

I hope you have found the layouts inspiring and that I have given you some different ideas of how to use them, I have to say it's a fabulous range to work with.

Introducing our lovely Guest Designers for 2012

Welcome aboard Sara Zenger and April Walker from the US, and Jessica Toulmin from NZ!!

Hi I am Sara Zenger and I am honored to be working with the Scrappin' Patch!  I live in Northern NY with my husband, our one 7yr old son (Cole) and our new puppy (Bauer). 

I have been scrapbooking for about eight years and have loved every minute of it!  I dont think I have a particular style but I do gravitate to making things with dimension - I go to through pop-dots and foam tape like you would not believe!  My favorite manufactures are Sassafrass Lass, Crate Paper, October Afternoon, Pink Paislee just to name a few.  

I am a craft alcoholic!  I love creating scrapbooking layouts but that is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to my crafty love.  I love to make cards, home decor, gift bags, banners, playing with fabric and more!  I am blessed to say that I have made many new friends both locally and online since my crafty days started! These friendship mean so much to me! There is nothing better than sharing something your passionate about with others that share the same passion.

I organize monthly craft days at my home (Scrap N Chat Days is what we call them) for a group of about 20 local girls.  Then once a year I organize a weekend long (Friday- Sunday) retreat where we all stay over and all our meals are provided there are goodie bags and prizes galore!  This past October I hosted my 8th Crop Til You Drop Retreat to 79 girls!  I love doing this for them!

I wish I could say I crafted all day but  I do have a 'real world' job as a manager of a convenient store.  When I am not working or crafting I enjoy being outdoors with my family, working out, reading, baking/ cooking or taking photos!

Hello, my name is Jessica Toulmin and I live in Bulls, New Zealand, with my wonderful fiancé. Together we have a very boisterous two year old son, who I am a stay at home Mum for.

I have been a crafter since I was born, making all sorts of embellished pictures, books, cards, paintings, cushion covers, clothing and decorations, to name just a few. I have tried almost everything crafty there is to try, but have settled predominantly on 12x12 layouts and cards in the last five years or so.

I do like to experiment and try new things; however my typical style is clean & simple.

And a big welcome to April!!!

Hi there!!  My name is April Walker and I’m 34.  I’ve been married to an amazing man named Mark, also 34, for 13 years and we have two beautiful daughters, Emily and Madison.  We live in the gorgeous mountains of western NC and absolutely love it here! 

I’ve been a scrapbooker for 3 1/2 years now and I seriously can’t imagine my life without this amazing hobby.  I’ve always loved taking pictures ever since I was a little girl, and once I was married with kids, the urge to take them grew even more!  I felt like the amazing memories I was capturing needed to be preserved in a better way than just being stuck into photo albums though, so I looked into how I could change that.  I searched around online, came across a scrapbooking site, and was instantly hooked!  To me, there’s nothing quite like taking a picture, pairing it with some amazing supplies and a story, and creating a memory that’ll last a lifetime.  I’m thankful every time I create something new that I found this part of my life and I know I’ll never quit!
