Scraptech TUesday - Corner Punch Flowers

Time for another Tip on Tuesday! :-)

I saw this idea online ages ago, but had never tried it out myself. But I had a play and the result is pretty cute!

I'm going to show you how to make some really neat flowers using scraps of paper and a corner punch. These are PERFECT for cards! I chose red & green papers as I am making some Christmas ornaments and decorations at the moment for our church services.

First, use a 1" square punch to cut your scraps of paper into squares. If (like me) you don't have a square punch, you can just cut them using a paper trimmer or ruler & craft knife.

Image

Use your corner rounder to round 2 opposite corners of each square.

Image

Arrange the rounded squares as shown to make a flower. A button in the centre looks pretty neat, or you could use any other round embellishments that you have lying around.

Image

Try making some of these flowers next time you have to whip up a card. They are really easy and a good way to use up your scraps!

Webster's Hollywood Vogue with Michele

Hi everyone,

A box of goodies arrived by courier at my house on Tuesday... as you well know 6 week old babies, 6 1/2 year old boys, housework, summer soccer, cricket games and practices - and least not forget a husband in there somewhere doesn't lend it self to being able to get my scrapping done in my house at the moment.

However, I found the time to delve into the Hollywood Vogue collection kit that I brought from the shop. I am trying very hard to get in some time to be creative - even if it isn't as much as I used to be able to do. I found that I was getting very very grumpy if I didn't get just a little me time every so often.

So I thought I would share a layout I did yesterday. I just love these colours!! I have also used my Tim Holtz Tattered Florals Die, some Prima bling and Basic Grey Alphas. Of course it is featuring our new baby girl, who at almost 7 weeks is growing up so fast!!

Image

I have never really been a Websters girl... I loved their paper ranges and have several of their papers but almost didn't know where to start. The papers are so pretty and intricate that I found I was a bit overwhelmed by them. But now that I have started using them, I can definitely say I am converted!! I just love fussy cutting out detail and layering so I find these just perfect papers to do this.

This is the second layout I have completed using the Hollywood Vogue collection and there are still loads of yummy gorgeous papers left to go.

Other products used:
Tim Holtz Bracket Die
Websters Bloomers

Now I want to collect them all...

Hope you are all having a good day !

Design Team Inpiration - GLITZ DESIGNS

HI Ladies,

Well i was a very happy lady when i received my inspiration kit this month- some beautiful Glitz design papers and embellishments!! And in green!! Perfect for me as i undergo a green period at the moment and right in my kind of style! So thank you Heidi and Adrienne for your wonderful choices for me!!

I took some photos of my eldest daughter Zoe the other week as she was so excited to have her first grown up girls dress!! No more pink and girly she wanted something prettier and not so babyish - she is all of 7 going on 17!! Anyway i wanted to do a layout for her that was more mature and not so babyish too so these Glitz papers were perfect- glamorous and feminine without being over the top. And Zoe was stoked with the end result as her favourite colour is also green!

Image

I loved the colour of the Prima bloom and actually used one of Zoe's bracelets as the beads matched the colour of the flower absolutely perfectly!! So don't be afraid to use non traditional items on your layout- i have used hairties and cut out butterflies and flowers from Hollie's baby clothes and used on my layouts too!

The peek a boo transparencies that come with this range are gorgeous and so easy to use- you get quite a few in the pack so they really are value for money!

I love my new Martha Stewart round the page punch- it just gives that little bit more of a wow factor on your page! If you haven't used one before- give it a try. I have also discovered that you can use the corner punch part to punch a beautiful border around a circle- to make a scallop or trim - check out this weeks colour challenge to see the result!

Technique Tuesday - Make a mini album in 1 hour

Hi Everyone,

I happened to chance upon this little gem the other week- designed by Anna Bowkis and thought that i would have a go. I'm not usually an off the page girl but am always open to trying new things! You really do use only one piece of cardstock- its all in the folding! You will need a few smaller photos - so 2by3 or i cropped a 5by 3.5 down abit. It was great for using up some old papers i had that had the alphas and elements with it - so old Basic Grey kits etc would be great to use up for this little album.

Here are a few pictures so you can see what i mean before i get to the instructions

Image

so -

Step One-

Cut your piece of cardstock into 3 strips of 10cm wide

Image

Then you need to mark and fold at these points.

Strip one- 5.5cm and 13.5cm and 24cm
Strip 2- 13cm and 28cm
Strip 3- fold in half- this is your cover
Image

Use double sided tape to stick the ends of strips 1 and 2 together make sure that they overlap

Stick the last flap on strip 2 to the inside back cover of your strip 3.

Once you have stuck it all togther you will have a long fold out book ready to decorate how you choose. Make sure you decorate both sides! Here are some of my pages using cut out embellies, a few flowers, bling , journalling stickers etc.

Image

Image
Image

It was a very easy and fun album to do in about an hour. My 7year old daughter saw my album and made one too over the weekend- a great easy project for kids to do too!

I hope that you will give it a try!

Final Week - Pauline's Choice

It's time to reveal the final star in our competition!!

My star is a wonderful scrapper from Penang, Malaysia.

Please give a big welcome to Irene Tan :welcome: :wave2:

Image

I am Irene Tan, from Malaysia and a mother of two blessings. I love the beauty of combining art and creativity with the magnificent world of scrapping and crafting. I love to experiment with all the wonderful crafting and scrapping products in the market and come up with new ideas in using them.

My inspirations of my work comes from everywhere. From the photographs to my surroundings and from the stories to the emotional attachment I have towards a specific project. My projects had always been a story teller. It's meant to tell the stories of each subject or topic of the projects. It's also my thoughts and view of that particular project.

My style is more into distressed/ephemera with loads of details. However, I am also able to work with other styles comfortably with a twist of my own. I love challenges and innovative assignments. I'm looking forward to come up with a book for all my techniques if a great publisher comes along.

Blog: http://scrapperlicious.blogspot.com/

Here are a few recent layouts from Irene which showcase her style:

Your challenge is not to scraplift Irene’s work, but to create a layout in her style. You will need to do your homework and check out her work on her blog. Try and pick out the products/techniques that you love and go from there.

Unfortunately I have been unable to do a layout for this as my stuff is all packed up to make room for our student and ready for our move. So here is Heidi B's take on Irene's style:

Image

You have until midnight, Tuesday 7 September to upload your layout. All submissions will be revealed together on Wednesday 1 September. You must be a member of our gallery in order to view and submit layouts for this competition.

The layouts will then be judged by Irene. Points will be awarded for first (4 pts), second (3 pts) and third (2 pts), and all other entries will receive 1 pt. At the conclusion of the competition, the one with the most points will bag the STAR prize, with second and third receiving a consolation prize.

We have a HUGE prize package of goodies supplied by designers and manufacturers. First prize will receive a Cricut Create machine!!!

Scrap Tech Tuesday - Altering Buttons

One of the best embellishments is big buttons
they are usually not to badly priced and even better if you can get them on sale
(Or raid Grans house!)

I love using buttons on layouts and especially if I can change them to fit the layout,
use them in the centre of a flower or even dotted around flowers or vines, on vintage layouts
cream buttons always work the best;
Everyone of us has left over pieces of rubon from one set or another so what better way to use them up than change the look of a button.

Here is a sample of changing ordinary ones by using rubons into something a bit different....

Image

and the changed version.....

Image

even using them as alphabet holders for a kiddies pages would work,
Remember to cover them with Dimensional Magic or Glossy Accents to seal the rubon
so it wont rub off

Hope to see this tip on some of your layouts in the future
Happy Scrappin :P5:

Scrap Tech Tuesday - Fabric Flowers

Scrap tech Tuesday - Fabric Flowers

Postby Heidi » Tue Jun 15, 2010 5:33 am
This week I am going to show you how to make your own FABRIC flowers using some soft Muslin Fabric which is easy to work with and fray with.

1. Firstly you will need a small piece of Muslin Fabric (approx 10 cm x 5cm) and iron it flat;
2. Fold it in half and iron flat again, then cut the two sections

Image

3. Next sew the two pieces of fabric together along the top.

Image

4. Tie the ends of the cotton on the one end, and then pulling the other two cotton pieces on the other side, scrunch it up to look like this.

Image

5. Once you have pulled the cotton and scrunched it up as much as it will go, tie the two ends of the cotton together in a knot so both sides will now be together and will not come apart. Then start fraying the edges of the fabric, the length of the fraying is totally up to you.

Image

6. Next I have sprayed some Glimmermist Chalkboard - Peacock onto the flower, to give it a two tone effect, it dries pretty quickly
on the fabric. Lastly I added a Grey Jewel in the centre to finish the flower off.

Image

So there you go, simple couple of steps, and very rewarding creating your flower, so I have it all ready for a layout where I need that something special added to the layout.

TFL and Happy Scrapping everyone.

Glimmermist CHALKBOARD

I saw these in the shop and wondered how to use them- would they be the same as normal Glimmermist?. It's no secret how much i LOVE using Glimmermist on most things, so of course I had to try them out.

WHAT IS CHALKBOARD? - I googled Glimmermist Chalkboard and this is what I found:-

This art medium will give you the same beautiful Glimmer as Glimmer Mist, yet the base will give you a semi-opaque finish that blends just like chalk. This is just like using art pastels or chalks! it will blend nicely with other Chalkboard colors or even with the original Glimmer Mist to create a variety of transparencies and add depth to your project.

and this is what I have tried them on so far!

Colour - CHALK (White)

I sprayed like you would normally directly onto a NAVY cardstock, I wondered whether you could actually see the white or whether it would be like the pearl Glimmerist and just give it a little shine - but to my SURPRISE - Yes ladies it shows up on the darker colours, check it out, don't you think it looks like a MILKYWAY of stars? :P5: :P5: :P5:

Image

Colour - PEACOCK (Turquoise)

Image

I tried the Peacock colour directly on the Pink Paislee Artisan Elements, it took a while to dry but it came out really well.

Colour - CONCORDE (purple)

Image

here I have sprayed some of the Chalkboard directly onto a White Feather as well as a home made CRINKLEPAPER flower :- check out the close ups

Image

Image

I also tried some CHARCOAL Chalkboard on the Making Memories Vintage Charms and it took two days to dry but it came out very nicely - sort of giving it that old - weathered look.

and lastly I have tried it out on the PRIMA FELT - here I used the HOT CHOCOLATE - it works really well on the felt and dried almost instantly.

Image

so if you have been toying with the idea of MAYBE buying some, I can tell you - they are pretty awesome, and there are lots of YUMMY colours in the shop

Still trying some more things, so keep an eye on the forum, will upload once I have played some more.

Happy Scrapping
