September Sketch and August Winner!!

Congratulations, Jessica Toulmin, winner of the August challenge!!!  Your RAK is on it's way.

This month's guest designer is Janet..

My name is Janet and I live on the beautiful Hibiscus Coast just north of Auckland. I am nearly 60, married for 38 years to a wonderful man – we have 2 gorgeous daughters, a great son-in-law and 2 awesome grandsons and I adore all of them!

I have been scrapbooking for several years, and was encouraged to start by my daughter Hannah. It sure is addictive and I find it very relaxing. I don’t think I have a particular style, but I do like to use ink, quite a lot of embellishments, ribbon and flowers! I am lucky enough to have a dedicated area in the spare room and love my little space.

I have had one layout and a card published in a NZ scrapbook magazine which I was totally over the moon about! One item off my goal list was achieved last year!

I make all my own cards, and have just started selling them, along with off the page items (notebooks, Journals, brag book albums, bookmarks) at local Craft Fairs.

I LOVE shopping for items, but also try to make use of my stash and old bits and pieces. One day I would like to learn a lot more different techniques and use more products.

Happy scrapping everyone!

Janet has chosen this beautiful sketch for you to create with this month.

And her lovely example.  I am sure some of you will recognise the subjects in this layout :)

Use Your Stash Challenge #3

Hi everyone :)

It's now my turn to inspire you to scrap your stash so you can win a $20 Scrappin' Patch voucher! There's so many goodies instore so it's a great time to enter.  You must only use product purchased pre 2012, excluding cardstock.

This week is a colour challenge!

Since we're nearing the end of winter (yipee!) I thought it would be nice to give it a final send off with some pretty autumn/winter tones. Here is the colour palette...

And here is my take...

I've had scraps from this Kaisercraft Peachy Keen paper pad hanging around for AGES so it's nice to finally see them made it onto a card. The cute badge detail is also from an American Crafts badge range that I bought yonks ago with good intentions (this is only the second one out of eight that I've used!).

How the competition works... Each Wednesday morning a challenge will be posted on the blog by one of the DT girls. Your take on the challenge (either a card or a layout) needs to be uploaded by midnight on the following Tuesday and all submissions will go in the draw to win a $20.00 voucher. We are using Inlinkz to upload to the blog. To do this see the 'Add Your Link' button below and upload the link to your creation on your blog or a gallery. Let us know if you have any questions :)

Second challenge for October

Hi Ladies and welcome to the second challenge for October. All entries are due by the 31st of October and don't forget that you are in the draw to win some great prizes from Adrienne. You also get  a chance to be in the spotlight and have your layouts featured on the blog and in the newsletter as well assetting a sketch challenge for others to complete.

This challenge is a really easy one- i would like you to try a technique that you haven't ever tried before on your page- on my page i used a piece of discarded paper from the back of a felt flourish. I literally grabbed it out of the rubbish bin and used it as a mask on my page- i couldn't find my glimmermist that i wanted so i inked it instead!

I would love to see what you all try on your pages- if you are stuck as to what technique you could try - have a look at the past technique Tuesdays- on the blog page go on the search box and type in Technique Tuesdays and a list should come up from previous posts to give you some ideas. Maybe you already have something in mind that you have always wanted to try- now is the time!!

Here is my layout using the masking technique

I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with - make sure you mention what technique you have tried- so that others can see and learn from you too!

Happy Scrapping

October Challenge- Scraplift your Favourite

Hi Ladies and Welcome to the first challenge for October! This month i thought that we would change it up a little from the usual challenges- there will be no theme for the month of October- we listened to your feedback and decided to drop the themes for the rest of the year- so you can scrap whatever and whoever that you choose!! So we are hoping to see alot more  of you competing and sharing your layouts with us in the gallery!

For this first challenge i would like you to scraplift one of your favourite designers but also putting your own twist on their layout -  it shouldn't be an exact scraplift down to the last detail. Please tell us who you are scraplifting and why you like their style so much. If you can please leave a link to their layout or blog page so that we can see what you are scraplifting! It's very important to honour the designer that you are scraplifting- they have put alot of time and effort and love into their work so that we can all  be inspired by them!

My favourite designer at the moment is Camilla Eckman from Sweden. She currently designs for Zva Creative, Swirlydoos Scrapbook kits and Get Picky-and of course Glitz Designs amongst others too. She has a beautiful elegant style with lots of beautiful layering, punching, flowers and bling!! Please check out her blog at http://camillaslillasida.blogspot.com/ to see the layout that i have scraplifted.

Here is my version- also using the same papers as i just love this Glitz range SOOOO much- as you can see i have scraplifted the base of the layout but changed the photo- she had one - i added 2 photos and i have embellished mine differently to hers but have been heavily inspired by her beautiful style!

September Off The Page Challenge

Hi everyone - it's time to introduce the OTP challenge for September. This month I would like you to make an Artist Trading Card that stands alone as a piece of art, then use your card on a larger item. You can use your ATC on a greeting card, decor item, giftbox or scrapbook page.

If you haven't made an ATC before it is SO easy! Cut your base card at 3.5 inches x 2.5 inches then decorate as desired. Traditionally, Artist Trading Cards are made flat and stored in sleeves designed for baseball cards, but I say break all the rules! Decorate your ATC however you like - you're the artist!

Here's my ATC. I cut apart the petals of my prima flowers so I could adhere them to the back of the sentiment layer exactly how I wanted them.

And here's the card I created using my ATC as the focus....

You can make the ATC removable if you like, I do this sometimes and put a strip of magnetic tape on the back so the inspiring card can be kept on the fridge.

Here's a little peek inside the card....

I hope you'll join in this month and make your very own ATC and use it on a larger item. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Supplies:
Emma's Shoppe Paper - Crate Paper
Out of Print Paper - Basic Grey
Liquid Pearls in Baby Blue
Barn Door Distress Ink
Crochet Trim
Prima Flowers
Leaf Trim
Button
Twine
Verve Visual Stamps
Verve Curvy Bookplate Die

Also you have to enter 3 of the 4 challenges to be eligible to win a RAK

The challenges for August will all be based around the theme

WORLD CUP WANNABE

You can use this theme in any way that inspires you. 2nd Fortnightly Challenge - Ends 31st July

Hi girls,

Time for our second fortnightly challenge for July! Remember, our theme is "Winter Wonderland" so keep that in mind for all your July layouts.

My challenge is a "BOYZONE" challenge. I want to you to scrap the boys/men in your life doing typical boy things! Remember, this layout doesn't have to be of your children, it could be of your husband/partner, brother, uncle, nephew, godson, neighbour, friend, father, grandfather, or even your male pet!!

On this layout, I scrapped photos of my boys making "snow angels" at the snow. It was the very FIRST thing they wanted to do when we got there! Unfortunately the snow was a bit crunchy so they didn't really turn out as they were hoping, but they still had fun trying.

1st Fortnightly Challenge - Ends 14th July

Hi everyone,

Wow I can't believe it is July already... where did JUNE go...

So this month it is all about WINTER! With July being the coldest month of the year ... it is only fitting that all the challenges will be around this wintery theme.

And I know you guys all love Multiphoto challenges so my challenge for you is to create a multi-photo layout that has more than 4 photos on it.

Here is my example layout... using my latest favourite Martha Stewart punch - the daisy border! And I used up some cardstock in craft and turquoise, The patterned paper is Simple Stories and very Old Scenic Route and Jenny Bowlin Alphas.

Image

You have till 14th July to place your layout in the gallery and remember, if you complete all 3 challenges during Jyly (the sketch challenge and the 2 fortnightly challenges), you might be chosen to be "In The Spotlight" next month!

Cheers
